JAMMU, May 2: In a first, Police in Jammu’s Akhnoor area claimed to have attached the property of a gangster worth several crores.
A police spokesperson said that the property of notorious gangster/history-sheeter Mukesh Kumar alias Gesha of Akhnoor, who was evading his arrest since long to avoid execution of PSA warrant issued by the District Magistrate Jammu, has been attached.
He said police in Akhnoor initiated proclamation and attachment proceedings mandated under provisions of sections 12(a) and (b) of Public Safety Act 1978 followed by 82 and 83(4) A, C, and D of the CrPC to ensure the presence of the absconding gangster so that the arrest warrant is executed.
“This is first major action initiated against a gangster in the Union Territory,” the police spokesperson said.
He said the proclamation notice was issued to the absconding gangster Mukesh Kumar directing him to surrender before the competent authority within a period of 30 days which he failed to comply with.
As such, the proclamation proceedings and attachments order was pasted on his immovable property measuring 4 kanals land.
This action, according to him, was completed by joint teams of revenue and police headed by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma, SHO Tariq Ahmed and Tehsildar Akhnoor Naresh Kumar under the supervision of SP Rural Brijesh Sharma.
Pertinently, Mukesh Kumar is a habitual offender, who was evading his arrest for long in several cases.
