JAMMU, Aug 25: Jammu & Kashmir Gau Raksha Samiti today sought strict action against those who are leaving their sick cows affected with Lumpy Skin disease untreated at Gaushala or other parts of the City and its surroundings.
Addressing a press conference along with their veterinary doctors, president of J&K Gau Raksha Samiti Raj Kumar Gupta said that Lumpy Skin disease is a viral disease that has already spread across length and breadth of J&K. Sharing preventive measures for Lumpy Skin disease in cattle for general public, he said this disease is transmitted by blood-feeding insects, such as certain species of flies and mosquitoes, or ticks.
The disease causes fever, nodules on the skin and can also lead to death of cows, he said, adding due to lack of awareness, panicked people are leaving their sick cows in and around the City to die. Due to ignorance of such people, virus is spreading fast in stray cows as well as the cows in Gaushala.
Gupta said if such people are not stopped from leaving the sick cows unattended, this viral disease can turn into an epidemic. He urged the concerned authority as well as Government of Jammu and Kashmir to take strict action against such people.
