SRINAGAR, June 26: To submit the suggestions for strategic development of the Jammu region, Gaurav Gupta, former General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, met with the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha here today.
During the meeting, Gaurav commended the Lt. Governor’s exemplary leadership, particularly noting the successful conduct of International Yoga Day in Srinagar with the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He emphasized the transformative projects and initiatives that have significantly contributed to the region’s growth and development.
Gaurav also urged LG Sinha for a dedicated railway track between Jammu and Katra, which currently spans 85 km via Udhampur, despite the actual distance being only 35 km. The upcoming operation of numerous trains between Jammu and Srinagar will enhance traffic on the existing track and it will become a potential bottleneck which will surely effect on the trains going from Jammu to Katra. So please take adequate measures in advance by directing a dedicated railway track between Jammu to Katra separately.
Recognizing the record number of tourists in 2023, he requested focused efforts on promoting tourism in the Jammu region. He proposed designating areas like Sarthal, Bani, Kishtwar, and Bhaderwah as official hill stations to attract more visitors and boost local economies.
Gaurav highlighted the urgent need for financial assistance and handholding measures for existing industries in Jammu. This support would prevent potential closures and stimulate economic growth in the region.
He expressed confidence in Lt. Governor Sinha’s continued leadership and its potential to drive further success and prosperity in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and believed that the attention to these requests will significantly enhance the development of the Jammu region.
Giving a patient hearing to the issues put forth by Gaurav Gupta, the Lt Governor has assured to take adequate step in this regard.
