KATHUA, Oct 21: In the aftermath of the terror attack in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday evening that claimed seven lives, including a doctor and six workers, the family members of the injured laborers are struggling to recover from the shock.
The family members of Madan Lal, a resident of Kathua district, injured in the attack, shared their harrowing experiences with the Excelsior.
Madan Lal is currently receiving treatment at SKIMS, Srinagar.
They recounted how the attackers, two in number, targeted innocent laborers as they were returning from the construction site in a bus.
“They showered bullets like rain on the laborers, when they were boarding off the bus, resulting in the deaths of six workers and injuries to others,” said Kamla Devi, the ailing mother of Madan Lal.
Anuradha, the wife of Madan Lal expressed gratitude to the God and said, “Due to grace of God, my husband is safe.”
She further appealed the administration as well as the company officers to help them in the time, as her husband, is only the person who is the bread earner and is not admitted in the hospital for the treatment.
Sham Narayan Mehta, a local of the area also expressed the profound impact of the attack on the family members, stating, “This incident has shocked the region, highlighting the continued threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. After this attack, we have lost faith in the assurances given by the administration regarding the safety of laborers working at the construction site in Ganderbal. Nothing has changed over the past few years as laborers continue to lose their lives in these terror attacks.”
He felt a sense of relief that another brother of Madan Lal, Mohan Lal, who is also working as a laborer for the same construction company, returned to his village a few days back.
“Since the work on the tunnel was nearing completion, both brothers had planned to come back. However, for various reasons, only Mohan Lal returned while Madan Lal stayed there for a few more days,” he explained.
“Now, we are praying for the early recovery of Madan Lal, so he can return home and join his family members, who are in deep shock, as soon as possible,” he added.
