JAMMU, Feb 27: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu, in collaboration with UIET Chandigarh, organized orientation session on “Reenvision Learning and Professional Transformation – National Education Policy 2020”.
This was a twinning initiative of TEQIP-III, under the chairmanship of Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner/ Secretary, Higher Education Department and guidance of Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal, GCET Jammu and Prof Goswamy, Director UIET, Chandigarh.
Orientation session was organized with the aim to provide comprehensive look on NEP-2020 and constructive direction to reorient the young minds. The session was attended by around 150 participants comprising of students, budding entrepreneurs and faculty of various Engineering Institutes, Degree colleges and organizations across the country.
The programme was enriched by the vast knowledge and experience of eminent speaker, Prof Niti Nipun Sharma, Pro President, Manipal University, Jaipur. He gave an insight on vision of National Education Policy (NEP)2020, its highlights and progressive changes made in education system through this policy. He brought very thought-provoking facts before the participants making them understand that why there was a need to change the Education Policy. He further emphasized on need of cross disciplinary learning and to innovate with societal connect.
Prof Sharma threw light on numerous opportunities and flexibility in the education sector brought by the introduction of NEP-2020, like multiple entry-multiple exit model for Engineering Education, autonomy for Institutions, rise in Budget allocation, emphasis on skill development, Start Ups and Incubations, Institutional restructuring and consolidation, increase in gross enrolment ratio to 50 percent and many more. He also threw light on how the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of the Government is in tandem with NEP 2020.
The session was very interactive and helped the budding entrepreneurs and young minds to strengthen their professional motives.

Earlier Dr Bhawna Sharma, welcomed the participants and formally introduced Prof Niti Nipun Sharma. The session was coordinated by StartUp Club Students Team, comprising of Raghav Gupta, Imbroz Singh, Isra Ishaq, Sparshdeep Singh, Adyan Gupta and Mandeep Singh. The session ended with formal vote of thanks by Er Sheetal Gandotra.
