JAMMU, Nov 10: Students of Government College of Engineering and Technology, Chak Bhalwal today held a strong protest demonstration against failure of the college administration in providing basic amenities to them on the campus.
The protesting students boycotted their classes and then marched towards Press Club Jammu in the form of a procession. Shouting slogans against the college administration, they also disrupted vehicular movement on ever busy Jammu-Akhnoor road. A minor scuffle also took place between cops and agitating students, who were marching towards Dogra Chowk.
The protest was organized under the leadership of NSUI national delegate Ajay Kumar, who addressed the agitating students and highlighted their issues, such as acute shortage and lack of faculty in GCET, no SRTC bus service for the students, poor road connectivity, no sports activities in the college, no library, ATM, stationary shop and ambulance facilities. “These are long pending demands of students but the authorities are paying no heed to these issues,” he said and warned to further intensify the protest if no action is taken within days.
The protesting students were also addressed by NSUI leaders Anwar Khan, Kamal Magotra, Nitin Bakshi, Rahul Pandit, Aazib Hamid, Arjun Farhan, Gagan and others.
They lamented that the lackluster attitude of the college authorities towards their long pending and most genuine issues had forced them to take to streets. We will further intensify our struggle if no immediate action is taken on our demands, they warned.
