JAMMU, Dec 17: On the third day of the energy conservation week, the students of GCET, Jammu, under the guidance of Principal, Dr. Sameru Sharma launched an awareness campaign in the nearby villages of the Chak Bhalwal.
On this occasion, Asgar Ali, Development Commissioner (Power), Khurshid A. Budoo, Chief Engineer, PDD, Sunil Kumar, Supdt. Engineer, PDD, Sanjay Sharma, Executive Engineer, PDD and K.R. Suri, Ex-General Manager PGCIL visited the College Campus at Chak Bhalwal and flagged off the volunteers of GCET to Kangrail, Deyaran, Chak Bhalwal, Seri Panditan and Marjali and other surrounding areas.
The door-to-door campaign was launched to educate the people of these areas about the ways and means to use the energy resources in an efficient and judicious manner.
The students impressed upon the residents of these villages to use the power saver electric bulbs and also to keep the lights off during day hours. The impact of global warming/hazards was also explained to the people. In addition to this, they were also sensitized about the techniques to save water. The students apprized the villagers about the overall impact of energy conservation on the economic condition of J&K. Assistant Professors Rajiv Bali, Sameer Khajuria & Neeraj Dubey accompanied the students in the campaign.
Earlier, Bhavna Sharma, Assistant Professor briefed the dignitaries about the activities being undertaken by the institute in the campaign on energy conservation. Senior officers of PDD shared their views on the energy issue of conservation and the existing power scenario in the J&K State. They also had an impressive interactive session with the students.
Further, debate competition and paper presentation programmes on the theme “Energy Conservation- a necessity for Sustainable Development” were also conducted in the presence of the Professors Dr. Subash dubey, Dr. Simi Dutta , Dr. Sanjeev Gupta and Dr. Veena Rani in which the students from the various parts of the State participated.
