JAMMU, July 28: The NSS unit of the Government College of Education (GCoE) Jammu launched a drive for protection of environment and conducted different activities in Palli (first Carbon Neutral Village) of Bari Brahamana.
The activities were conducted under the patronage of Prof Aekta Gupta, Principal of the College, who while flagging off the NSS volunteers and students for village Palli, said, “there is a dire need to protect the environment by planning trees and GCoE is making all out efforts in this direction by paying visits to different areas and planting saplings in collaboration with the heads of the respective villages”.
At village Palli, the NSS volunteers and students planted around 100 plants under the supervision of Programme Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal. Dr Rajinder Kour, Prof Seema Kumari and Prof Sarita Dogra also assisted in making the activities a grand success.
Dr Arun Gupta from Ayush and Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu and Dr Aftab also spoke on importance of different plants and trees. “Tree and plant extracts contain a variety of bioactive compounds that help with everything from managing pain to staunching bleeding, sterilizing wounds, strengthening our immune systems, soothing our nervous systems and more”, they said.
Ranbir Sharma, Sarpanch of Palli village was also present on the occasion.
