JAMMU, Nov 9: NSS Unit of the Government College of Education (GCoE) Jammu today distributed clothes, stationery and other essential items among the slum dwellers of Maratha Mohalla near Trikuta Nagar.
The donation drive was organized under the patronage of Prof Satish Kumar and guidance of NSS Programme Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal. The faculty members, students and NSS volunteers brought unused clothes from their homes and distributed the same and other essential items the slum dwellers on the eve of Diwali.
The intensity of enthusiasm among the NSS volunteers and students can be gauged from the fact that some of them even purchased new clothes including sweaters and blankets by spending their own pocket money. The collected clothes were then washed, ironed and packed according to the size, gender and type.
Speaking on the occasion, NSS PO Dr Shubhra Jamwal said, “the volunteers always remain on the forefront in helping the needy and underprivileged sections of the society and such efforts will be made in future also”. Prof Anuradha Chowdhary, Prof Vinay Lata, Prof Priyanka Mahajan and Prof Seema Kumari also participated in the donation drive.
