GCOE students pledge to conserve forests

JAMMU, July 21: The students and NSS volunteers of the Government College of Education (GCOE) Jammu today pledged to rub the shoulders with the Department of Social Forestry for enhancing the green cover and conservation of existing forests.
The pledge was made during an event organized by the NSS Unit and Nature Club of the College in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry Jammu. Roshan Jaggi, Director Social Forestry, Mohinder Gupta, Regional Director, Alok Kumar Maurya, Shweta and Shoaib, all DFOs were the guests on the occasion.
A plantation-cum-polythene free campus drive was inaugurated by Roshan Jaggi and about 100 plants were planted by the students of the college in presence of the guests and Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour. Seed balls were also distributed among the NSS volunteers.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Social Forestry stressed upon the importance of trees and the practical steps required to be taken for environmental sustainability. He also laid focus on action oriented approach to conserve forests. Dr Kulvinder Kour, Principal also spoke on the occasion.
NSS Unit along with their teachers Dr Shubhra Jamwal,  Prof Shapia Shameem Bhatti, Prof Neeraj Verma, Prof Sarita Dogra, Prof Seema Sharma, Dr Jyoti Parihar,  Dr Shalini Sharma, Dr Sushma Bala, Prof Shalini  Rana and Prof Mansi Sharma also actively participated in the event.
