JAMMU, Dec 31: In a humanitarian act, the NSS Unit of the Government College of Education, Jammu donated winter clothes among the slum dwellers of Maratha Mohalla near Trikuta Nagar, who were in the dire need of the same during the prevailing weather conditions.
The donation drive was organized under the patronage of Principal of the College Prof Aekta Gupta and guidance of NSS Programme Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal. The NSS volunteers collected warm clothes during a week long drive carried out in the college premises.
The intensity of enthusiasm among the NSS volunteers and students can be gauged from the fact that some of them even purchased new clothes including sweaters and blankets by spending their own pocket money. The collected clothes were then washed, ironed and packed according to the size, gender and type.
The NSS volunteers and students also distributed eatables and other essential commodities among the slum dwellers and wished them happy and healthy New Year.
Prof Aekta Gupta, Principal of the college said that this was one of the initiative taken towards the underprivileged section of the society and it saw an exemplary participation. NSS PO Dr Shubhra Jamwal said, “the volunteers always remain on the forefront in helping the needy and underprivileged sections of the society and such efforts will be made in future also”.
Prof Shapia Shameem, Prof Sarita, Prof Neeraj and Prof Seema also participated in the donation drive.
