GCPF for total abolition of reservations

JAMMU, Oct 23: General Category People’s Forum (GCPF) Jammu organised a meeting of office bearers under the leadership of Raj Kumar Banathia, chairman of the Forum and discussed various issues confronting the general category people.
The main focus of the meeting was on the evil effects of caste and class based reservations and other special privileges and concessions.
Addressing the meeting Yash Pal Sason, president of the Forum demanded total abolition of reservations. He condemned the policy of Government to continue with the caste and class based discrimination through reservation and to ignore the economically and educationally backward families of so called upper castes for its vested interests for political gains.
He said it is all invidious and immoral to ignore genuine, deserving and needy families on the basis of their caste and religion. The politics of caste, class, religion and sectarianism in India has kept the country away from what it deserves. He further added that continuation of reservation on the basis of caste, class or religion is clear cut violation of human rights and principles of equality and justice.
Sason demanded that all kinds of reservation be ended and provisions of Special Support Measures (SSM) be made for economically and educationally backward and deprived families of all castes and religions as no caste or class is poor and backward completely.
He said there are elites in every caste and class and they don’t deserve any Government support. If Government under political pressure of vote bank fails to take legal and constitutional steps to safeguard the fundamental rights of the people, they could adopt possible democratic modes to teach Government a lesson, he added.
Som Nath Sharma , general secretary of the Forum demanded ‘equal rights and equal laws’ for all. He also sought immediate abolition of reservation as it created embitterment and unrest among youth as they never got what was their legitimate due on the socio-economic and political processes due to caste and class based discriminatory reservations.
Sharma pinned hopes on Prime Minister for removing negative perception about general category people and they should be provided with equal rights, privileges, concessions, opportunities and equal participation in public life. He demanded some measures to undo the injustice meted out to general category people over the years through caste based undemocratic, palliative bane reservation.
A resolution was also passed demanding legal provision of Special Support Measures (SSM) for the economically and educationally backward families of all castes and religions and abrogation of discriminatory reservation for the creation of casteless and classless Indian society.
