JAMMU, Apr 30: The National Youth Parliament 2024 was conducted in Padma Shri Padma Sachdev (PSPS) GCW Gandhi Nagar today in the college auditorium under the aegis of The National Programme for Youth Adolescent Development (NPYAD), organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The theme of the NYP 2024 was ‘ Young Voices: Engage and Empower for Nation’s Transformation’. The objective of the programme remained to provide a platform to the youngsters where they are given a mock-Parliament set up and exposure to the Parliament type debate. It also aimed at hearing the voice of the youth who would be joining various careers in the near future.
The programme started by formally welcoming the guest of the day, Prof Archana Bakshi, HoD English, in the presence of the Principal of the college, Prof S P Saraswat. Dr Gurpreet Kour also graced the occasion as the observer.
Thereafter, the formal welcome address was presented by Dr Rippy Bawa, Cordinator, NYP 2024 wherein she also detailed about the aims and objectives of Mock Parliaments in the educational institutions. It was followed by the proceedings of the Mock Parliament which included deliberations between the Ruling and the Opposition parties on The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill,2021. The mock parliament was adjourned after the successful passing of the Bill followed by Rashtriya Gan.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof S P Saraswat motivated the students to continue participating in such programmes as it would polish their personalities for outshining in various professions.
