JAMMU, Dec 5: Department of Environmental Sciences, Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, organized an interactive session on the theme ‘e-waste and its management’ with the aim to create awareness among the students regarding the key concepts of e-waste.
Dr Nazia Rasool Latifi, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences while extending a warm welcome to the guest speaker and the audience, discussed about the ways and means to address the e-waste pollution.
Anuradha Gupta, Scientist A, SPCB and Nodal officer Solid Waste Management attended the event as a resource person. The session started with screening of a video showing proper methods of e-waste management .She discussed at length different types of E-wastes, their impacts on health and environment and the different ways with which the waste can be converted into valuable resource if managed properly.
More than 500 students attended the interactive session. The session was very informative and beneficial for the students.
Principal of the college, Dr SP Saraswat, applauded the department and encouraged the students. In his message, he said that by organizing this enlightening lecture on e-waste ,the college has provided a platform for students to expand their knowledge and engage in meaningful discussions .
The event was attended by Dr. Ashok Kumar, Head of the Department of Biochemistry , Prof Ishfaq Majeed , Dr Anita Kotwal, Head of the Department of Philosophy among others.
The programme was coordinated by students, Zahida Khatoon and Anmol Choudhary. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Upasna, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences.
