JAMMU, Sept 2: A career counselling session with a special focus on Civil Services viz UPSC and JKAS examinations, was held at RSPS Government (PG) College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu in the college auditorium under the aegis of Department of Political Science, in collaboration with S R College of Competitions, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The session was held under the patronage of Prof Minu Mahajan, Principal of the college. She motivated the students to make the right career choice by preparing for the Civil Services as this would also help them improve their academics as well as their overall personality.
Prof Paramjeet Singh, Convenor of the session, introduced the Resource Persons. Dr Gopal Parthasarthi Sharma, in his introductory address, motivated the students to take up the challenge of cracking Civil Services Examination.
While conducting the session, Gautam Kumar Pandey from Delhi, representing SR College of Competitions, dealt with all the aspects of Civil Services including eligibility criteria, scheme of examination, syllabus, choice of optional paper etc. He spoke in detail about various strategies for preparation for Civil Services. During the session, students were provided with copies of syllabus for the examination and the resource person explained the nitty-gritty of the same.
In a highly interactive session, students asked a number of questions to the resource person who answered all the queries to the best satisfaction of the students. He stressed for an early planning for Civil Services preparation. He asked the students to regularly read newspapers, study NCERT material and ensure proper time management. He said that while preparing for Civil Services, students should not lose their focus over academics as these are equally important.
On the occasion, SR College of Competitions offered counselling to all those interested in knowing more about Civil Services and also announced that shortly a mega scholarship test shall be conducted for the college students desirous of attempting Civil Services exams.
Convenor IQAC, Dr Suresh Bhatt was present on the occasion. Faculty members, Dr Pooja Charak, Dr Harmeet Singh, Dr Vandana Sharma were also present.
