JAMMU, Sept 4: PG Department of Home Science, Government College for Women, Parade is organizing various activities to celebrate the ongoing ‘Nutrition Week’.
The theme of the celebration is “Food and Nutrition for Better Health of Adolescent Girls”. The celebration aims to raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating for optimal health among the students.
In this connection a cooking competition, “Healthy Breakfast for Adolescent Girls” was held today in the Home Science Department.
Dr Hemla Aggarwal was the chief guest on the occasion, who, while speaking, stressed upon the importance of appropriate lifestyle and healthy eating habits to prevent diseases and improve quality of life and increase life-expectancy.
She advised the students to eat a varied selection of foods from every level of the food pyramid which would supply different nutrients, vitamins and minerals needed for good health and to include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains in the diet and be physically active.
On the occasion, Dr Shashi Kaul, Dr Aruna Dubey and Prof Nidhi Kotwal were the judges.
The first prize was bagged by Anjuman and Ramneek, second prize by Priyanka, Deepika and Varsha and third prize by Vandana, Neha and Lalita.
Among others present were Prof Tabbasum Ara and Prof Barbara Kaul.
