JAMMU, Feb 25: As part of the Design Your Degree (DYD) programme a Dogri Nukkad play ‘Dheeth’ was today staged at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade Ground.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ravender Kumar Tickoo, Principal, GCW Parade, lauded the efforts of the students and Rangyug, emphasizing the significance of the DYD programme in nurturing talent and providing skill-based education.
“Through this program, our students are not just learning theories but also developing confidence, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility. I congratulate the students for their outstanding performance and extend my appreciation to Rangyug and Deepak Kumar for their dedicated efforts in shaping young creatives,” he said.
The play, written and directed by renowned theatre personality and Director Rangyug, Deepak Kumar, was developed as a practical outcome of the training sessions conducted by him.
A total of 27 students participated in the event.
The play highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, responsible urban planning and community awareness.
Through the journey of a Sadhu and his Chela, the play depicted their admiration for Jammu’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
However, as they explored the city, they encountered challenges such as the need to keep the Tawi River clean, reduce plastic usage and ensure organized urban spaces.
The narrative encouraged a positive outlook towards sustainable development, civic responsibility, and collective efforts to preserve the environment.
The performance, a result of rigorous training and workshops, was well-received, showcasing the artistic and expressive abilities of the students.
The initiative underscores the significance of theatre in education, fostering creativity, confidence and social awareness among students.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr Alpana Vohra, Dr Gurpreet Kour and Dr Randhir Kour, along with faculty members, students and teachers, who appreciated the efforts of the young performers.
