Srinagar, Apr 12: In view of heavy tourist footfall and rising safety concerns, the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) today barred both Government and private schools from organizing student visits to the tourist destination on Saturdays and Sundays.
In an advisory, the GDA said the weekend rush has led to frequent traffic snarls and overcrowding, posing risks to student safety.
As a precautionary measure, schools have been directed to avoid planning excursions, picnics, or educational tours to Gulmarg on weekends till further notice.
The advisory further makes it mandatory for schools to seek prior permission at least five working days in advance for any planned visit.
The application must be approved by the Head of the Institution or Department and submitted via email to gulmarggda@gmail.com, the directives stated.
Details such as the date of visit, number of students, staff accompanying them, transport arrangements, and an emergency contact number must be included to ensure coordination with local authorities, it stated.
The GDA has also instructed school managements to ensure proper vehicle parking and maintain cleanliness during visits.
