JAMMU, May 21: Over yesterday’s accident of college student Niharika Sharma outside college due to an accident with a high speed dumper, Akhnoor College students led by Nazar Singh today gathered outside college and held strong protest. They also blocked main road.
The students were demanding action against rash driving dumpers, speed breakers outside college and deployment of police cops outside the college gate in the afternoon.
Nazar Singh while addressing the students said that we are demanding construction of speed breakers since long but no one in administration took it seriously resulting in precious loss of life.
Ayush Jamwal, student leader lambasted administration for not taking action against rash driving and over speeding vehicles on College Road. He demanded strict action against the culprit involved in the accident. Further all students observed two- minute silence for the peace to the departed soul.
Civil Administration along with Police including SDM Akhnoor Akhil Sadotra, SDPO Varun Jandial, Tehsildar Surinder Singh, SHO Hilal Azhar  rushed to the spot and listened to the grievances  of students and assured them the timely redressal of their issues.
SDPO Varun Jandial while speaking to the students said that the issue of making speed breakers outside college gate has been already taken up with the GREF since April 22, 2022 and today again we have taken up this matter with their officials and they have assured us that soon the speed breakers will be constructed on both sides of the college gate. Further on demand of deployment of cops, he assured that cops will be deployed during the afternoon outside the college.
