Geelani’s attempt to hold seminar foiled

Srinagar June 14: Government today didn’t allow chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, to hold a seminar in Srinagar by putting him under house arrest and detaining some Sikh leaders who had come to attend the seminar.
Police detained Dal Khalsa chief Kanwarpal Singh, Dr. Manjinder Singh Jandi and human rights activist and chairman ‘Sikhs for Human Rights’ Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema in Srinagar.
Akali Dal leaders including Jaskaran Singh Kahn Singh Wala and Narinder Singh Khalsa were not allowed to go to Geelani’s residence for the seminar. Police deployed outside the residence of Geelani at Hyderpora also stopped other people who had come to attend the seminar.
Reports said that flight in which human rights activist Gotam Navlakha was travelling to Srinagar for the seminar was not allowed to land in Srinagar.
Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a statement issued here condemned the Government’s move to stop him from holding the seminar. He said the communal Government wants to suppress all the minorities by using its state power.
