JAMMU, Oct 14: General Category Peoples Forum (GCPF) Jammu, formerly Arkashan Virodhi Manch, has strongly condemned the move of the Modi Govt to bring amendment in SC/ST Atrocity Act nullifying Supreme Court’s verdict.
A meeting of the General Category Forum was held here today under the chairmanship of Prof Yash Paul Sharma, president of the Forum, in which detailed discussion was held on various issues pertaining to General category people. While speaking on the occasion, Prof Sharma said that reservation is an ordeal to the General category people, based on bias, prejudice and negative perception of the political class against this category. He condemned the amendment of SC/ST Atrocity Act and said that it has nullified the apex court verdict as well. Moreover, it has brought embarrassment to the Saints and religious preachers of Sanatan Dharma across the country.
Sharma alleged that political class in the country has disregarded and marginalized Swarn castes people and pushed them into the oblivion for its political vested interests. The present Modi Government has taken General category people for granted, and it would cause fast erosion in its traditional vote bank in coming elections. The main political parties had been advocating the cynical casteism, projecting minority plank and pseudo secularism and following appeasement policy to some ethnic groups through reservation and have distanced themselves from the General Category people. It may certainly cause them a big set back in coming elections.
Som Nath Sharma, general secretary and VK Sharma, vice president of the Forum also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the general category people to teach lesson to such political parties which are working against the interests of the General category people in coming elections. They demanded effective welfare measures for the economically backward families. Secretary Deepak Khajuria accused the Government of denying fundamental rights of equality, justice and dignity to the General category people in the country. He said strong volcano of anger emerging among the youth of general category may explode any time and Govt must feel the pulse and take much needed welfare measures for them without any bias and discriminatory attitude.
