General Category People’s Front highlights issues, demands

JAMMU, Aug 23: A meeting of General Category Peoples’ Front, Jammu Kashmir, was held today under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, chairman of the Front.
Addressing the meeting, Prof Yash Paul Sanson, President of the Front, alleged that people are suffering under LG administration as it has not any interest towards the mitigation of grievances of people and has failed to deliver even basic amenities like electricity and water supply to the people.
“JK UT is under the vicious circle of price-rise, heavy taxes; fines, fees, fear, corruption and unemployment,” he said and added that lack of direction and will have compounded the problems of people. “Local people have lost confidence over BJP as a political party due to anti-people actions of LG administration that has hiked everything, that is why BJP has decided to secure the votes of outsiders,” said Sanson.
Som Nath Sharma, Gen Secretary of the Front, said that the grievances and problems of General Category people have compounded and they have been facing inequality, injustice, partial treatment and caste discrimination for the last 75 years due to discriminatory socio-economic and political policies of the Govt. He expressed great regret over the use of history as a tool to justify the politics of caste, class and religion. He demanded that the legal and constitutional provision of ‘Equal Laws and Equal Rights’ be implemented in true sense to end all types of discriminations.
“Govt of India should stop misleading people in the name of social justice and fundamental rights which have been restricted to appease a section for playing vote-bank politics,” said Som Nath Sharma.
Vice-President V K Sharma reiterated Front’s stand to oppose in every possible way the unlawful, unconstitutional suppression and marginalization of General Category People.
Bhushan Pargal pleaded for common civil code and Hindu Temples and Shrine Board Act with representative character ending the interference of Government in the religious affairs of Hindus. He also demanded 50 percent rebate in water and electricity Bills as neighboring states are providing 300 units free to people. Participants ridiculed LG administration for not enhancing the Medical allowance of employees and pensions, which is Rs 300/-since long. Dr Bansi Lal, Deepak Khajuria, Gopal Dass Verma, Surinder Sharma also expressed their views.
