General Motors India launches Chevrolet Sail U-VA premium hatchback

JAMMU,  Nov 19: General Motors India today launched the all –new Chevrolet Sail U-VA today. The premium hatchback takes styling, performance and safety to a new level.
Launching the new car here Sastry Vempati, vice president Planning Program Management and New Business Development, General Motors India said the Sail U-VA hatchback is built on a new global small passenger car platform created especially for fast growing emerging markets, including India. Engineers at the GMT technical Center-India in Bangalore spent nearly two years adopting the platform for India to ensure that it would meet the requirements of the Indian market and Indian car buyers, he added.
He said the much -anticipated U-VA hatchback is an important addition to GM’s small car portfolio in India. It brings a new sense of vitality to the largest, fastest-growing and most competitive segment in the domestic passenger car market, he added.
He said at the heart of the Sail U-VA hatchback is GM India’s latest family of petrol and diesel smatech engines, which presents an excellent combination of high power, high fuel efficiency and low emissions.
The 1.3 litre SDE smartech Common rail diesel engine is a revolution in small diesel engine technology. It was developed by the GM diesel engine technical center in Turin, Itlay with the support of engineers in Pune and Bangalore to achieve a balance between cost, performance and fuel efficiency specially for car buyers in the Indian market.
The car has been designed as per the condition of Indian roads also, he added.
Mr Sastry said among its cutting edge technical features are lightweight aluminum alloy DOHC cylinder head, lightweight pistons with graphite coated skirts that have anti friction properties and low tension piston rings that decreases weight and increases the fuel economy.
He said GM India is 100 year old company and in 1928 its car plied on Indian roads. This car, has been made in India by Indians for Indians and it is number one selling car based on reliability and durability, he added.
He said the car has a very strong diesel performance and fuel efficiency and one takes a lot of fun in driving the car.
