JAMMU, June 10: Dharam Jagran Samanbey in collaboration with Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha J&K organized a function at Teachers Convention Hall, Gandhi Nagar to commemorate General Zorawar Singh for his valour in extending the boundaries of India.
The function was started in the evening and presided over by revered Mahant Shri Rameshwar Dass Ji Maharaj while Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. B S Slathia, Ex-president, Bar Association, J&K High Court, Jammu and Rakesh Kumar, president Dharam Jagran Samanbey, Uttar-Pradesh were guests of honour.
Rakesh Kumar, in his address, threw light on the life history of General Zorawar Singh and apprised all that General Zorawar Singh extended the boundaries of India in a very hard and difficult situation. He said that history of such able and competent generals must be taught in schools to make aware the present and future generation of the country.
Jugal Kishore Sharma and B S Slathia also addressed the gathering. Narayan Singh, president, Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha J&K, was present on the occasion. He also highlighted the achievements of General Zorawar Singh and requested all to follow the foot prints of the great warrior to built the country strong.
Zorawar Singh was General in the Indian subcontinent and was subordinate to Gulab Singh. He was born in a Hindu (Rajput) family in 1784 in village Ansar of Himachal Pradesh. His family migrated to Jammu region. General Zorawar Singh was employed by ambitious Raja Gulab Singh and placed under command of Reasi Fort (Bhim Garh). He conquered Padder area which was part of Himachal Pradesh and annexed with J&K State. General Zorawar Singh attained martyrdom in 1841 during his last and final campaign against ‘Tibet’.
