Berlin, Aug 21 : If Donald Trump wins the United States presidential election and decides to suspend military assistance to Ukraine, Germany will still continue to support Kiev, German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck said on Wednesday.
“Yes, in that case we will not leave Ukraine alone,” Habeck told the Funke media company, when asked whether Germany would try to make up for any assistance that the US might stop providing if Trump were to win the upcoming presidential election.
Habeck also stated that absence of American assistance will affect Ukraine, but this would encourage the remaining allies to collaborate even more closely.
He added that the commitment to supporting Ukraine operates without any conditions or reservations, when commenting on reports about the reduction of assistance to Kiev from the German government.
Russia said that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the conflict settlement and directly involve NATO countries in the conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the US and NATO were directly involved in the conflict not only by providing weapons, but also by training personnel in European countries. (Agencies)
