Srinagar, Oct 1: The shopkeepers in city Centre Lal Chowk around Ghanta Ghar today shut their shops as a mark of protest after one of the shopkeepers was allegedly beaten by the personnel of traffic.
The eyewitnesses said that the son of the concerned shopkeeper had not installed the HSRP registration plate due to which his bike was seized.
“While that was happening, the shopkeeper came in and tried to talk to the cops, but in return, he was beaten and bundled into the police vehicle,” the protesting shopkeepers said.
They said that even if there was a violation, the policemen had no right to beat him. “We have some respect and are law-abiding citizens; there was a violation, we agree with that, but then, there is a certain way to deal with it,” Javaid Ahmad, one of the shopkeepers said.
However, later, the protesting shopkeepers opened their shops after the concerned police officers met and assured that they would look into the matter.
