Students at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Bharat in Education Zone Ghat, Doda, are expressing their resentment regarding the shortage of both teaching and non-teaching staff in their school. This shortage of teachers is particularly concerning as the school offers medical, non-medical, and arts streams, and dedicated teachers have been transferred without any replacements, leaving the students to face the consequences. The administration, particularly the education department, has implemented various reforms concerning staff transfers. It has been claimed that all transfers are carried out following established norms, and there is no room for nepotism, favouritism, or out-of-turn transfers. However, the situation at GHSS Bharat appears to contradict these claims. Despite having a sanctioned staff strength of 35 members, only 22 are currently in place. Teachers have been transferred without ensuring replacements, leading to a crisis for students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds who heavily rely on school education. These students lack resources, and their studies are suffering due to arbitrary decisions by the authorities.
The administration asserts that all transfers are conducted through an online portal after careful deliberation. However, the significant staff deficiency at this school raises questions about the effectiveness of this process. This matter requires immediate attention, and action should be taken against officials responsible for this situation. To alleviate the immediate crisis for students, temporary teachers or substitutes should be assigned to the school until permanent replacements can be found. This will ensure that students do not suffer academically due to the shortage of teachers. Residents have expressed dissatisfaction and are on the brink of organising protests if the necessary staff is not promptly assigned.
