JAMMU, May 5: The first general body meeting of newly framed General Insurance Retirees Association (GIRA) was held here today.
The association constituted of the serving and retired employees of four Government Public sector insurance companies including Oriental Insurance, United India Insurance, New India Asurance and National Insurance.
The meeting was addressed by J Gurumurthy, Vice President, AIIPA, from Chennai, JP Singh, President, Chandigarh Unit, Arun Kali, President, Punjab Unit and Pawan Gupta and Romesh Chand.
Addressing the participants, J Gurumurthy appraised the attendants about the general development in the insurance sector.
He said, “Whenever and wherever, there are natural calamities in the country, the employees of public sector general insurance companies and LIC have provided the yeoman services to the citizens of the country, but the Government always failed to address our issues, as the result we have framed a new organisation here today.”
Gurumurthy urged upon the Government to merge the four public sector general insurance companies and make it a strong corporation like LIC, so that it can compete with private sector general insurance companies in a better way.
He emphasised upon the Government that agreed demand of increasing family pension to 30% is to be notified immediately for the Public Sector General Insurance retirees and also demanded that 18% GST on Medical Insurance is to be withdrawn in case of retirees.
“The pension is to be upgraded consequent on wage revision of In-service Employees like central civil pensioners and other sectors, Income Tax exemption on pension income and abolition of NPS,” he said.
On the occasion, new body of the association was also announced, the body included Bashir Ahmed President, Darshan Lal, Vice President, Ajit Ram Sharma, General Secretary, Shambu Gupta Joint secretary, Rakesh Gupta, Treasurer, R.K. Uppal and Gulzar Ahmed as Organising Secretaries.
While, Rangesh Chander, Raj Kumar Sharma, Jaswant Singh, TK Pandita, DS Kaul, Inder Krishan Kandroo and VK Pandita were appointed at Executive members.
