NEW DELHI, Dec: 28 An industrial interaction was organized at Udyog Bhawan which was also attended by Union Minister of Textiles Giri Raj Singh.
Dr Romesh Khajuria, Chairman, Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC) informed the Minister on the occasion that alternative and allied fibers can play important role in enhancing exports of textiles products. The interactive programme was chaired by Romesh Khajuria in presence of WWEPC Executive Director Suresh Thakur which was organized to discuss the immense opportunities surrounding industrial hemp and allied fibers at Udyog Bhawan, Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi. The event brought together influential stakeholders, including Karan Sarsar, Founder & CEO, Awega Green Technologies LLP. Shripat Jagirdar, Founder & CEO, Weaving Vibes. Shridhar Jagirdar, Founder & CEO, Karishma Exports. Kanika Sood, Agriculturist, humans of hemp key highlights as blending hemp and wool. The experts explored the global demand for blending hemp and wool, emphasizing the benefits of sustainable and eco-friendly textiles. This initiative aims to position India as a leader in the sustainable Textile Industry stated Dr Khajuria.
On international collaboration and export opportunities, Khajuria welcomed proposals for Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with South Korean delegates to facilitate knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and investment in India. The partnership included a buy-back arrangement for hemp-based products and innovative textile technologies.
Awega Green Technologies announced its intent to initiate a pilot project for saturating industrial hemp farming in a district of Uttarakhand, aiming to boost local farmer incomes and sustainable practices.
In Support for commercial hemp production, the Textile Ministry, the Awega Green Technology is establishing a proposal in Uttarakhand or some other State on commercial hemp production to benefit the farmers and textile sector with the Ministry of Textiles and Textile Commissioner involved for policy alignment.
On collaborative outlook, the gathering concluded with a strong commitment from WWEPC, industry leaders, and policymakers to leverage industrial hemps potential. Both Minister and Dr Khajuria expressed optimism about India’s capacity to dominate the global sustainable textile market.
With initiatives like Bharat Tex 2025’s dedicated hemp pavilion, sustainable fashion show, and knowledge-sharing conference, India is poised to set a global benchmark in sustainable textiles.
