JAMMU, May 9: Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh today reached Leh on a four-day visit to the Union Territory of Ladakh during which he will visit border villages along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) as part of Central Government’s ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’.
Singh visited Leh office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and interacted with party leaders and workers. He called upon them to take Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public welfare schemes to villages.
He also visited model village of Sabu and had stay at BJP worker Tashi Angdu’s house over a cup of tea. He discussed developmental works in the village and benefits of welfare schemes launched by the Prime Minister.
Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh Chairman-cum-CEC Tashi Gyalson received the Union Minister along with others including senior officers.
Later, Giriraj Singh chaired a review meeting regarding projects of Rural Development, NRLM, Watershed Development and SVAMITVA in Ladakh. He focused on the development of comprehensive convergence plan consisting Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal & Sheep Husbandary Development and non- farm allied activities with NRLM for uplifting of economic status of rural households with active support from banks.
The Union Minister stressed upon the fast tracking of completion of the SVAMITVA scheme with active involvement of both Hill Development Councils in Leh and Kargil.
Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgayal; Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Stanzin Chosphel; Executive Councillor LAHDC Kargil Phuntsog Tashi, Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Commissioner/Secretary, RDD Saugat Biswas; Secretary Agriculture Ravinder Kumar; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Director, RDD; Director Horticulture; BDC Leh ,Assistant Commissioner Development Leh/Kargil; District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Leh; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh, District Panchayat Officer (DPO) and other concerned officers from RDD attended the meeting.
During his stay in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Giriraj Singh will visit forward villages located along the Line of Actual control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh to assess their development and works required to be done their under ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ of the Central Government.
Prior to Giriraj Singh, Union Minister for Labour and Employment and Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister NS Tomar had also visited the Union Territory of Ladakh under the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’.
As reported by the Excelsior earlier, the Central Government has directed all Union Ministers to visit the villages along China borders under the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ and stay with the villagers for at least a night.
