JAMMU, May 17: A girl today attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at the Jammu University hostel where she was staying illegally.
She was rushed to Gandhi Nagar Hospital and later referred to GMC Hospital where doctors washed her stomach. Her condition was stated to be stable.
Identified as Sarika of Nowshera, the girl was working in Jammu and staying in Priyadarshni Hostel of JU with a boarder. She was learnt to be recently engaged for marriage by the family members.
However, exact cause behind the provocation could not be ascertained.
Meanwhile, in another incident on the campus, a student leader in Baba Jitto Hostel was assaulted by another boarder, this afternoon.
The victim, identified as Talib Hussain, president of Gujjar-Bakerwal Students Union, was assaulted by one Fahim and his outsider friend after some verbal dual between them.
Police have registered the case and arrested the accused while the victim was admitted in GMC Hospital Jammu.
