SRINAGAR, Sept 14: A teenage girl was killed and two others were injured when they were attacked by bears in the Kashmir valley, official sources said here today.
They said a 19-year-old girl Zareena Bano was grazing cattle at Batnard, Kupwara, when a bear entered there from a nearby forest and attacked her. She died before villagers could shift her to hospital.
A 16-year-old Sauyab Ahmad Chowhan was attacked and injured by bear at Sundernar Kandiwara in south Kashmir’s district of Anantnag. The injured was shifted to Sub District Hospital Kokernag for treatment.
They said a bear entered a residential colony at Safapora from nearby forest this morning. However, before the residents could do anything, the wild animal attacked and critically wounded one Mohammad Ramzan Dar. The other residents immediately rescued him and shifted him to local hospital. However, he was referred to Srinagar hospital in a critical condition.
Locals protested against the incident and alleged that Wildlife Department has failed to protect the lives of residents from wild animals who often infiltrate there.
