NEW DELHI, Nov 21: A proposal is being mooted for glass made train coach for Qazigund-Baramulla railway line and this could be a reality by mid 2015 if cleared at highest forum in the Union Government.
The glass made train coach for Qazigund-Baramulla railway line came up for discussion in a meeting of the senior officers of the Ministries of Tourism and Railways held under the chairmanship of Union Tourism Secretary Parvez Dewan. The Railway Ministry was represented by senior officers Satya Prakash and Nikki Anand.
The officers were discussing railway line for Araku valley, popularly known as Ooty of Andhra Pradesh when Nikki Anand said that even Qazigund to Baramulla was technically feasible for glass train.
It was disclosed in the meeting that glass body coach for Kashmir valley will cost over Rs 3 crore while as the same for Araku valley will cost Rs 7 crore for being much bigger train.
After discussion on the glass train, Union Tourism Secretary asked the Railway officers to work out estimates and drawings of glass train for both Araku and Kashmir valley.
“If all sanctions go through, the construction will take 18 months and dream project could be launched by mid 2015”, the meeting was informed.
