DUBAI, Feb 7: The UAE is set to host a global summit to explore how significant technological developments could help governments to meet the needs of citizens in future.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and President of Samsung Electronics Boo-Keun Yoon will be among the 3,000 participants from 87 countries to examine the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments’.
Museum of Future Government Services will showcase how ‘technology 20 years ahead’ will radically reshape our lives.
The third Government Summit, which would be held between February 9 to 11 here, would emphasise on how governments can better use technological developments to be more effective and responsive to their residents.
It will include a learning lab live from Mars, combining virtual reality and robotic telepresence, and robots which enhance human capabilities, from exoskeletons to maintenance robots.
The role of robots in helping governments deliver better services, usage of digital revolution to re-shape economy and the opportunity to use big data for future planning are among some of the topics to be discussed.
Bernard S Meyerson, VP of Innovation at IBM would showcase the world’s smartest robot IBM’s ‘Watson’ whose capabilities in learning and analytical skills will be tested live.
The UAE will also award USD 1 million to the winner of ‘Drones for Good’ competition for showcasing the best application of drone technology in improving people’s lives.
It will also explore self-driving concept cars, showing how intelligent vehicles will transform mobility in future.
“Governments cannot stand still. We need to constantly explore new ways to anticipate the needs of our citizens. We are delighted to host dignitaries, business leaders and thought leaders from across the world for an intense set of discussions about how we can shape future governments,” Head of the Organising Committee and UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi said.
