JAMMU, Dec 10: Glowing tributes were paid to martyr Shamsher Singh Manhas, Deputy Commandant 151 BN, BSF who laid down his life while fighting terrorists on December 9, 2001 in Kulgam area of Kashmir valley.
A function in this regard was held in Government Girls High School Jourian on Friday in which Daljeet Singh Chib, chairman Kissan Advisory Board J&K was the chief guest and Dr Krishan Lal Bhagat MLA Chamb, Sunaina Sharma, SDM Akhnoor, Davinder Pal, SDM Khour, Kewal Krishan Sharma, Tehsildar, Akhnoor, Bal Krishan Naib tehsildar, Akhnoor and Executive Officer Municipal Committee Jourian were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Daljeet Singh Chib described martyr Shamsher Singh as the hero of Jourian who spend 15 years of his service in the militancy infested Kashmir valley and Punjab and always led the encounters from the front.
Born in a farmer’s family of Manhas Rajput, he was very brave right from his childhood and was very good in studies also. He was awarded Police medal for distinguished services in the militancy infested area of Kashmir Valley.
Chib appealed the State Government to rename the Government Higher Secondary School, Jourian on the name of martyr Shamsher Singh Manhas.
The students of the School presented a colourful cultural programme on the occasion. A Guard of Honour was presented by the 33BN of BSF on the occasion. The family of the martyr on this occasion distributed free notebooks to the students of the School.
