Merely by erecting buildings to house Medical Colleges and Hospitals but without providing the reasonable infrastructure mainly in terms of the medical personnel and other staff or providing it in quite inadequate measure serves no purpose at all. We can give leverage for this factor that Kathua was provided with a full fledged facility of a tertiary referral Government Medical College and Hospital in the year 2019 and just during a span of two and a half years it has shown better performance also and has been imparting satisfactory healthcare facilities to people . Should it have the minimum required but an essential number of Doctors and Specialists, it can do still better besides routinely imparting medical education in medicine and surgery at Bachelors’ degree level to the students.
Initially, a total strength of 800 was sanctioned in favour of this medical institution but still a shortage of Doctors is felt which if not addressed at an early date, may impair its working in respect of providing satisfactory healthcare to the patients. Any newly established institution against a naught in the past is bound to encounter certain difficulties for some time but efforts should be made to address those in time and , therefore, since the Principal of the institute has already written to and taken up the matter with the higher authorities, we expect that on need based principle , the issue of shortage of Doctors should be addressed at an early date before the problem becomes really a major problem.
