GMC asks PG, M.Ch scholars to complete research formalities in 3 months

Srinagar, Jan 10: To do away with the delay which was witnessed earlier, the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar has asked all the MD/MS/ PG Diploma and M.Ch. Scholars to ensure that all the necessary formalities including allotment of topic and clearance of Ethical Committee well within 3 months.
The officials told Excelsior that a decision in this regard has been taken by the Board of Postgraduate Studies in Medicine GMC, Srinagar.
They said that all the MD/MS/ PG Diploma and M.Ch. Scholars of Batch 2022 have been told that the decision taken in the meeting of the Board of Postgraduate of Studies in Medicine, Government Medical College, Srinagar has stated that all the prerequisites including allotment of topic and clearance of Ethical Committee must be completed within 3 months from the date of admission of the P.G. and M.Ch. Students (2022).
“The swiftness in this regard will enable the scholars to start work on the allotted topic immediately so that they get ample time to complete their research work which earlier used to witness undue delay,” the officials said.
They further informed that after discussing the issue, the Board has unanimously resolved that the topics allotted to the PG Scholar be first discussed in the Departmental Committee within 2 months from the date of their admission after the last date of counselling before sending the topic to the Ethical Committee for its clearance.
It has been noted in the meeting that the Ethical Committee shall have to give its clearance within 3 months from the date of admission of the PG student to the course to enable the scholars to start work on the topic immediately after 3 months of admission. “This step shall help the scholars to complete their work within time and also an opportunity for publication,” the meeting noted.
The officials told Excelsior that the process earlier used to witness delays due to which the scholars were not getting ample time to complete the necessary work. “It also used to strain the entire process, but now, with the renewed instructions, there is a hope that it will get streamlined,” the officials said.
In this regard, all the Heads of the Department, P.G. and M.Ch. Guides have been directed to ensure that the decision taken by the Board is implemented in letter and spirit and at the same time, ask the concerned PG (MS/MD) B. M.Ch. Scholars are to submit the gist of the synopsis to the Academic section of GMC, Srinagar.
They have been further directed to expedite the process and ensure that the PG/M.Ch. Scholars of their respective departments submit the gist of their synopsis at the earliest. The scholars have been told not to use abbreviations in their Research Topics.
