SRINAGAR, July 21: The Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has started the routine Paediatric laparoscopic surgeries at the hospital with the successful completion of a paediatric laparoscopic cholecystectomy on a 9-year-old female child.
As per the officials, the young patient, diagnosed with symptomatic cholelithiasis, was recently admitted to GMC Baramulla for surgical intervention.
“Upon examination, an ultrasound of her abdomen revealed a densely packed gallbladder with multiple small, faceted gallstones, along with signs of chronic cholecystitis.”
The officials said that the medical team, after ensuring the child’s fitness for the procedure, proceeded with a paediatric laparoscopic cholecystectomy on July 18, 2023.
The complex surgical procedure was skillfully performed by a team of accomplished doctors, led by Dr. Mahmood Rashid and Dr. Mohsin, with the invaluable guidance of Dr. H. Vaqar HoD, General Surgery Department.
To ensure the patient’s safety and comfort during the surgery, anaesthesia services were administered by Dr Fehmeeda, an associate professor of Anesthesia, and Dr Gulzar, a consultant Anesthesiologist.
The introduction of routine paediatric laparoscopic surgeries at GMC Baramulla is expected to improve the overall healthcare experience for young patients requiring surgical interventions.
Dr Mahmood Rashid expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, ” It signifies a significant advancement in our medical capabilities, allowing us to provide cutting-edge treatments to our young patients.”
