GMC holds maiden workshop on Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis

SRINAGAR, June 13: A first of its kind in medical colleges in J&K, the Department of Community Medicine at Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, today organized a two-day workshop on Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. The workshop is aimed to enhance research capabilities and scientific rigour among faculty and resident doctors.
The workshop saw active participation from faculty and resident doctors representing various institutions and departments, including GMC Srinagar, SKIMS Soura, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, and the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.
Dr Partha Haldar, Additional Professor at the Centre for Community Medicine, AIIMS New Delhi, served as the visiting guest faculty for the duration of the workshop.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Masood Tanvir, Principal and Dean of GMC, Srinagar. He commended the Department of Community Medicine for organizing this pioneering workshop, emphasizing its significance in promoting evidence-based scientific research.
Prof. Tanvir highlighted the workshop’s role in enhancing patient care and scientific rigour through well-conceived research questions.
Dr Partha Haldar, during his sessions, provided comprehensive insights into systematic review and meta-analysis.
He expressed his enthusiasm about training a select group of doctors in J&K who would not only be capable of conducting systematic reviews but also publishing their findings in international journals.
Dr S. Muhammad Salim Khan, Head of the Department of Community Medicine at GMC Srinagar and the organizing chairman of the workshop, emphasized the importance of conducting research at higher levels of analysis and synthesis. He assured attendees that the department would continue organizing workshops of similar calibre in the future.
The workshop received accreditation from the J&K Chapters of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA). It was also awarded eight Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit Hours by the J&K Medical Council.
