JAMMU, Nov 16: In a significant accomplishment, Government Medical College Jammu (GMC-J) has achieved the distinction of being the first tertiary care centre in the Jammu region to receive certification as a registered Medical Centre for Palliative Care under the CTC-4 Program.
The CTC-4 program, a one-year training initiative for Palliative Care, was conducted by the Palliative Care Department of AIIMS New Delhi, in collaboration with APHN (Asian Pacific Hospice Network) Singapore and Lien Palliative Care Collaborative UK. The funding for this program was provided by APHN Singapore and Lien Collaborative.
Notably, GMC Jammu is the sole tertiary care centre in the region that was included in the CTC-4 Program for this comprehensive training. The Palliative Care staff of the Hospital underwent training at AIIMS New Delhi, with participants including Dr Rajesh Mahajan (Interventional Pain and Palliative Care Specialist), Dr Naine Bhadrala, Dr Shabnam Choudhary, and two staff nurses.
While acknowledging the Hospital’s accomplishment, Dr Rajesh Mahajan attributed this success to the proactive initiatives of Dr Anju Jamwal, HoD Anesthesia, ICU, and Pain Medicine. Dr Jamwal, a certified palliative care specialist, played a vital role under the guidance of Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of GMC Jammu. This effort was further bolstered by the unwavering support of Bhupinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary of the Health & Medical Education Department.
Here, it is important to note that GMC Jammu holds the distinction of being the inaugural tertiary care teaching institution in the Jammu region to initiate a Palliative Care Centre. This centre features a dedicated 8-bed ward and a team of trained personnel delivering services under the National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC). The facility boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure, conducting daily Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD) services.
