JAMMU, June 17: The Department of Transfusion Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, National Health Mission J&K and ISBTI J&K Chapter organized a function to celebrate World Blood Donor Day.
The Event was attended by more than 50 voluntary Blood Donor Organizations including Sant Nirankari Mandal, Thalassemia Society, Military and Paramilitary forces, Youth organizations, SKUAST Jammu, NHPC Salal, IIT Jammu, NCC and NSS incharges of various colleges of Jammu region and University of Jammu.
Dr Vijay Sawhney, Associate Professor, appraised the audience about the importance of World Blood Donor Day while Dr Meena Sidhu, Professor and HoD Transfusion Medicine presented the welcome address. She explained the theme of the World Blood Donor Day 2023 “Give Blood, Give Plasma, Share Life, Share Often”.
Ayushi Sudan, Mission Director, NHM J&K highlighted the role and support of NHM in augmenting Blood Transfusion Services specially implementation of NAT testing of Blood Units in J&K.
Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma, expressed her gratitude towards voluntary blood donors and organizations for their selfless service to the mankind and desired their help in achieving 100% voluntary blood donation in J&K.
Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, Bhupinder Kumar, emphasized the important role of regular voluntary blood donors and organizations in providing safe blood to the needy patients.
The event was also attended by Ashwani Khajuria (Administrator GMC Jammu), Ajit Singh (from Sant Nirankari Mandal Jammu), honorary secretary Regional Red Cross Society Sat Pal Sharma, HoD’s and faculty members of various departments of GMC Jammu.
Voluntary blood donors were honored during this event. Mr and Mrs Vivek Suri were given star couple blood donor award. Ravneet Singh and Gurinder Mehta were given young blood donor award and female blood donor award, respectively.
