GMC Jammu celebrates World Blood Donor Day

JAMMU, June 14: To celebrate World Blood Donor Day, voluntary blood donation camps were organized at Blood Centers of Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu and SMGS Hospital.
The camps were organized by the Department of Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion, Government Medical College, Jammu in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, J&K.
Around 40 blood donors from various organizations viz. Amar Ujala Jammu, BSF Frontier Headquarters Jammu, St Stephens Nursing College Jammu and Saviours-The Blood Organization J&K donated their blood for the needy patients. Around 20 Nursing Staff of GMC and Hospital also donated their blood.
The Department also organized two outdoor blood donation camps in collaboration with Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Bantalab (Jammu) and Indian Red Cross Society J&K in which around 40 volunteers donated their blood.
Principal GMC Jammu Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Medical Superintendent GMCH Jammu Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial, HoD Blood Transfusion GMC Jammu along with other dignitaries highlighted the importance and need of regular voluntary blood donation in saving the lives of the patients especially those requiring regular transfusions like Thalassemia, Cancer, Kidney Disease and accident patients.
They urged the public in general and organizations in particular from all walks of life to come forward towards this noble cause and help the medical facilities to save precious lives.
