JAMMU, Aug 10: Institu-tional Ethics Committee (IEC) of GMC Jammu today gave permission for conducting Plasma Therapy on COVID-19 patients, in its full board meeting held today in NMC Hall, GMC Jammu.
During the meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Prof (Dr) Kuldeep Sharma (former HoD Zoology and Dean, Jammu University) and patronage of Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, Prof (Dr) Nasib Chand Digra, detailed deliberations were held on ‘Convalescent Plasma Therapy in moderate to severe COVID-19 patients’.
After lengthy deliberations on requisite infrastructure, manpower and machinery, the meeting accorded approval to start of Plasma Therapy in the institution. It was decided in the meeting that the Plasma Therapy project will be undertook by Head, Department of Blood & Transfusion, Dr Meena Sidhu with the assistance of HoD Medicine Dr Anil Sharma and HoD CD Hospital, Rahul Gupta.
The meeting also discussed several other issues regarding the project like making list of probable donors, criteria set by ICMR for donors and receivers, etc and finally the project was given approval by the committee. Now, a proposal to start Plasma Therapy will be send to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Earlier, Prof (Dr) Sanjay Kumar Bhasin (Member Secretary of IEC) presented agenda of the meeting. Besides, Plasma Therapy, the main projects which came for discussion include ‘Analysis of genetic polmorphisms in Candidate micro RNA and androgen signaling pathway genes in human prostate cancer’, ‘Application of new tools for molecular diagnosis and surveillance of Post Kala Azar dermal leishmaniasis and cutaneous leishmaniasis in India’ and ‘Study to evaluate the effectiveness of walking spinal on pain free vaginal delivery using injections of Buprenorphine 50 mcg and Injections Bupivacaine’.
The members who took part in deliberations include Prof Sunil Sachdev, Prof Anil Gupta (ASCOMS), Prof Subash Bhardwaj, Prof Jyoti Hak, Prof Seema Gupta, Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Advocate P S Parmar, Sudhir Kumar and Dev Raj. Dr Ghamshyam Dev (former Principal, GMC Jammu) attended the meeting as Advisor to the IEC, GMC Jammu.
