JAMMU, Nov 30: Taking a major step to promote clinical research and collaborations with premier research institutions in India, GMC Jammu has signed an MoU with Indian Council of Medical Research through National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV), Pune.
The MoU was signed by Dr Ashutosh Gupta (Principal, GMC Jammu) and Dr Naveen Kumar (Director ICMR, NIV Pune) in the presence of Dr Sandeep Dogra (Principal Investigator VRDL and HoD Microbiology, GMC Jammu), Dr Abhijeet V Jadhav (Scientist E, Epidemiology, ICMR-NIV) and staff of VRDL.
Earlier, Dr Naveen also visited the upgraded VRDL-PMABHIM having the newly started BSL-3 laboratory at GMC Jammu wherein he was apprised of newly started next-generation sequencing, multi-plex RTPCR testing and viral load testing services being provided to the patient of GMCH Jammu.
The joint technical collaboration will involve common areas of interest including supporting VRDL in advanced molecular viral diagnosis, research collaborations, academic activities, research linkages and public health activities. Both the institutions also look forward to collaborate for the public health emergency of infectious diseases such as outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics for prompt diagnosis and active surveillance.
The MoU will also provide opportunities to faculty, staff and students to make optimal use of the expertise and facilities available in both organizations through training and exchange of thought and ideas by brainstorming sessions and hands-on workshops. For the purpose, ICMR-NIV Pune will deploy a ground team at VRDL Jammu who will work along with the VRDL Jammu team.
Pertinent to mention that Department of Health Research, through the Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi has decided to establish four zonal ICMR-NIVs, under the PM-ABHIM scheme, of which one is designated for North Zone, India and is being established in the Jagti (Nagrota) in Jammu.
