KATHUA, May 13: Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua has completely transformed its Department of Dentistry with the integration of state of the art technology.
The Department expanded its treatment options with the inclusion of 5 new Dental Chairs, one CBCT machine, 3 Soft tissue lasers, 3 Endomotors and other newer dental equipment. With this, the Department is poised to revolutionize the delivery of dental services and offer comprehensive treatments which previously were not available to the population of Kathua.
Following NMC guidelines, the Department has dedicated faculty comprising of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor (one each) and two consultants from the Health Department. The faculty is assisted by two Senior Residents and 14 Dental technicians. By introduction of advanced new Dental Chairs, the capacity to treat patient has increased manifold. Now, the Department can cater more number of patients and offer them all dental treatment in OPD hours only, thus reducing the number of appointments and waiting hours.
Last month, the Dental OPD touched 500 marks with approximately 200 dental procedures. The Department has introduced one CBCT (Cone Beam Computer Tomography) X-Ray unit in the Department, which is a significant leap in diagnostic imaging within the field of Dentistry and ENT. Unlike traditional 2-Dimensional X-rays, CBCT provides high resolution 3 dimensional images of oral and maxillofacial region with an unparallel detail and accuracy.
Three Soft tissue lasers have also been installed in the Department which offers minimal invasive solution for various oral conditions like De-pigmentation of Gingiva, Frenectomy, Crown lengthening, removal of red and white lesions and ulcers. It will help in taking Biopsy, Implant recovery, Desensitization of tooth, Orofacial Pain Management.
Thus, by integration of these cutting edge technologies, the Department of Dentistry in GMC Kathua has expanded its ability to offer a comprehensive range of Dental treatment whether patients require routine preventive care, restorative procedure or RCT or Cyst/tumor identification.
