GMC Kathua organizes cancer awareness camp

JAMMU, May 11: Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua under the leadership of Principal Dr Shashi Sudhan organized a cancer awareness camp at Rural Health and Training Centre (RHTC) Budhi.
The camp was organized with joint efforts of Department of Radiation Oncology and Community Medicine. A well structured cancer awareness plan was made and under three separate sessions Dr Sonika Sangra and Dr Deepak Abrol addressed the rural population as well as health workers.
First of its kind initiative “Nipping Cancer in the bud” was also started and health workers were given training for the same. Logistics for the camp were arranged and provided by Dr Sanjeev Verma, Medical Superintendent, Associated Hospital GMC Kathua. Cancer awareness literature published under unrestricted educational grant from LBN Radiations of Hope (a cancer care foundation) was also distributed.
Dr Yashpal Sharma, Director, Coordination, New Medical Colleges, said that these kind of camps will be a regular feature henceforth.
Meanwhile, a health medical camp was also organized during which Dr Parveen Singh, Dr Gurmeet, Dr Anuj Kapoor, Dr Ishrat and Dr Kamna screened and examined about 100 patients and distributed free medicines among them.
