JAMMU, Mar 17: Gynecology & Obstetrics OPD was initiated today at Maternity Hospital Gandhinagar GMC Jammu. It was inaugurated by Dr Shashi Soodan Sharma, Principal & Dean GMC & AH’s Jammu in presence of Dr Amita Gupta, HoD Dept of Gynae & Obstetrics, Dr Ghanshyam Saini, HoD Dept of Paediatrics, Dr Arun Sharma Medical Superintendent Maternity Hospital Gandhinagar GMC Jammu, Consultants, doctors from SMGS, and other staff of Maternity Hospital Gandhinagar GMC Jammu. Dr Sashi Soodan Sharma on the day released Computerised OPD Slips and the Consultants from SMGS started the OPD.
Maternity Hospital Gandhinagar GMC Jammu is 200 bedded hospital for mothers and children but due to unfortunate occurrence of COVID in 2020, this hospital was converted into a COVID Hospital in April 2020, wherein 3 waves of COVID pandemic were seen & handled.
Since May 2020 Maternity hospital was started as a dedicated level 3 COVID care facility which catered 626 patients during the 1st wave of COVID (No death, No Covid positive surgery, no Critical patients kept). During 2nd wave of COVID, it was made level 2 COVID facility and 644 patients were admitted (all sick and critical patients kept; all Gynae, obstetrics and paediatric COVID positive requiring ventilator support were admitted and all COVID Positive surgeries of Jammu Division were done at Maternity Hospital Gandhinagar GMC Jammu) and from April 2021 COVID Operative procedure of GMC and its Associated hospitals were started and till date 167 COVID operative procedures have been done.
3rd wave of Covid January 2022 onwards all 200 beds were made functional with centralized oxygen; 2 more PSA plant with 1000 lpm each were operationalised after 2nd wave (Total 1000 lpm 3 plants now). All sick and critical Patients kept; all Gynae, obstetrics and paediatric COVID Positive requiring ventilator support were admitted and all COVID Positive surgeries of Jammu Division were done at Maternity Hospital Gandhinagar GMC Jammu.
During the decline of 1st wave of COVID, non-COVID Chest diseases patients were admitted from November 2020 to April 2021. Till now 1430 COVID & 354 Non COVID Chest Diseases patients have been admitted in total. Initially, only 66 Oxygen beds were available but later the capacity was increased and at present there are 200 oxygen beds with monitors on all beds and pediatric ventilator support and having 1150 D type oxygen cylinders & 3 PSA plant with 1000 1 pm capacity were operationalised.
