GMC Rajouri gets license to prepare blood components

Will help 14 lakh population

Jammu, Dec 15: In a major relief to a population of about 14 lakh in Pir-Panjal range, Government Medical College Rajouri achieved new milestone by getting permission to prepare Blood components as additional products from Directorate General of Health Services, Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (HQ), Blood Central Division, Government of India New Delhi.
The Blood components include concentrated Packed Red Blood Cells IP, Platelet Concentrate, Fresh Frozen Plasma, Cryo-Precipitate and Anti Haemophilic Factor.
Speaking on this occasion, Professor (Dr) A.S.Bhatia Principal and Dean Government Medical College Rajouri said that in past patients requiring these blood components, majority of whom were patients suffering from Dengue fever, Hemophilia, Thalaseamia and other blood disorders were being referred to Jammu causing a lot of inconvenience to the patients and to the attendants hailing from far flung hilly areas and many times help was seeked from Army Hospital Rajouri for which he thanked Brigadier Ajay Chandra for all his help.
Dr Bhatia said that this feat was made possible only because of full administrative support of Secretary Health and Medical Education Bhupinder Kumar who personally supervised each and every step for establishing of Blood component lab, District Development Commissioner Vikas Kundal who provided all support in shifting and creation of new space for this project and Mission Director (NHM), Babila Rakbal, Director Co-ordinator New GMC’s, Dr Yash Paul Sharma and State Drug Controller Lotika Khajuria.
Dr Iram Yasmeen, Head Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine and Immunohaematology said that every effort is being made to make it is a state of art blood centre in Rajouri District. Medical Superintendent Dr Mehmood Hussain Bazar said with the start of this blood component lab, Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri is all set to start Thalaseamia Clinic and Ward which will help Hundreds of poor children of this region.
Various social and political organisations have welcomed this achievement and have appreciated the visionary approach of present Administration of GMC Rajouri in uplifting the standard of Health Care Services.
