GMC Rajouri starts Fibroscan services

JAMMU, Mar 4: In a major relief to a population of about 14 lakh of the Pir Panjal range, Health and Medical Education Department achieved another mile stone by starting Fibroscan Services at Government Medical College Rajouri to scan people suffering from Liver disorder.
Principal Government Medical College Rajouri Dr A S Bhatia said that on the directions of Secretary to Government H&ME, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, to provide high end advanced medical services to the rural people, they have started the fibroscan in this region which is first of its kind in Pir Panjal area.
With starting of this diagnostic service patient suffering from Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Chronic Alcoholism and non-alcoholic cirrhosis besides many other suffering from liver disorder will be greatly benefitted. The incidence of fatty liver disease is on the rise because of improper dietary habits and shifting to western styles of junk food. In India cirrhosis of liver is a major health problem.
“Liver diseases accounts for over 2 million deaths annually. Liver cancer accounts for 600,000 to 900,000 deaths annually,” he said.
Medical Superintendent Dr Mehmood Hassan Bazar said that with this diagnostic equipment the doctors will be able to diagnose the early changes occurring in the liver and corrective eating habit changes can be advised to prevent the occurrence of Liver cirrhosis.
