GMC Rajouri to have centre for club foot treatment

JAMMU, Apr 3: In a major relief for the children suffering from club foot (a deformity of foot) living in the Pir Panjal range. Government Medical College Rajouri came to their rescue by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National NGO “CURE (Centre for Urban and Regional Excellence) India” to establish a specialized centre for the treatment of children suffering from club foot at GMC Rajouri.
In a meeting held at GMC Rajouri under the Chairmanship of Prof Dr A S Bhatia, Principal. Government Medical College Rajouri. the MoU was signed in the presence of Dr Santhosh George. Director of CURE International Trust. Dr Mehmood Hussain Bajar. Medical Superintendent of Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri. Dr Irfan Malik. HoD Orthopedics. Vidhushi Sharma. State Program Co-ordinator at Children in India and Sahil lone. DEIC Manager Rajouri.
The collaboration aims to provide free treatment and support 10 every child born with Club foot irrespective of their Socio-Economic background or Geographical Location. The new centre at GMC Rajouri will focus on delivering High quality care and specialized interventions to ensure the well being of Club foot patients in the region.
It is pertinent to mention Club foot is a congenital condition where a baby’s foot is twisted out of shape or position. It occurs in about one in every 1,000 live births, making it one of the most common congenital musculoskeletal anomalies.
Dr Bhatia said that on the directions of Administrative Secretary to Govt. Health and Medical Education Department Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah to provide best possible medical care to people, the MoU has been signed. With the establishment of this specialized centre, the children with club foot deformity will get the maximum benefit and will need not to visit outside Pir Panjal Area. CURE India, which has been working extensively to treat club foot, will be providing all logistic-help including implants, braces for the treatment of these patients.
Medical Superintendent Dr Mehmood said that this initiative underscores the commitment of GMC Rajouri to address the heallh care needs of vulnerable populations and promote inclusive health care practices. The establishment of club foot treatment centre marks a significant step towards enhancing access to quality health care services for all people living in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
